A South Farmingdale man has been accused of slicing open another man's face with a beer bottle in a fight outside a Merrick bar early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.

Police charged James Fontana, 42, with assault and criminal possession of a weapon after officers caught him running from Jugs and Stroker's Bar at 1828 Sunrise Hwy. at 1:50 a.m.

Police said Fontana swung the bottle at the man's face, deeply cutting his nose.

The victim, 23, was taken by private vehicle to a hospital, where several stitches were required to close the wound, police said.

Fontana was scheduled to be arraigned Sunday at First District Court in Hempstead.
