A 30-year-old man was arrested Wednesday after a female acquaintance was slashed in the middle of a Central Park knoll, NYPD officials said.

Police planned last night to charge the man, whose name they did not release, with assaulting the woman with a knife near Central Park West and 103rd Street around 11 a.m.

Cops came and chased the suspect up and down a hill before capturing him, an eyewitness said.

"When they went up there they drew their guns and told him to get on the floor," Michael Hernandez, 23, who works as a doorman at a nearby building, said.

The NYPD said the suspect and victim were a couple, but couldn't say whether the woman was the alleged attacker's wife or girlfriend.

The woman, also 30, and whom the police also did not identify, was taken to St. Luke's-Roosevelt Hospital Center in stable condition.

The suspect slashed himself during the ordeal, police said, and was taken to the same hospital.

Three officers were treated at NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital for minor injuries suffered during the suspect's arrest.
