Nassau detectives said they have charged a man with attempted murder after he grabbed an officer’s gun and holster when police came to investigate a report of a suspicious person making threats in North Long Beach Monday afternoon.

Fourth Squad detectives said they encountered Nick Rastetter, 33, when they arrived outside 80 Waterfront Blvd. in response to a 911 call of a person making threats shortly before 1 p.m.

When police confronted a man matching the description of Rastetter, they said, the man grabbed an officer’s gun and wrestled with the officer for the weapon. He was subdued during the struggle when another officer arrived to assist, police said.

Rastetter, whose hometown was not immediately known, had no identification on his person and was “uncooperative,” police said.

He was charged with first-degree attempted murder, second-degree attempted robbery, second-degree assault and second-degree obstructing governmental administration.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead, police said.
