Man charged in Smithtown bank robbery, cops say

A Port Jefferson Station man was arrested not long after he held up a Smithtown bank Thursday, Suffolk police said.
Maximilian Beres, 29, took off with cash from New York Community Bank on Nesconset Highway about 1:45 p.m. and dashed to his nearby vehicle, police said.
But Fourth Precinct Police Officer James Tobin spotted the getaway vehicle, pulled it over and arrested Beres, police said.
Beres was charged with first-degree robbery and held for arraignment Friday
