State Police who pulled over a man driving erratically on the Southern State Parkway in Islip Saturday found that he was drunk, had no license and had his son and daughter in the car, police said.
Trent Hyman was charged under Leandra's Law after police said they found his 7-year-old daughter and 5-year-old son in the 2006 Mercedes he was driving.
Troopers say they spotted Hyman driving poorly Saturday at about 1:45 a.m. and pulled him over.
His blood-alcohol content wound up being 0.13 percent, police said.
He was charged with felony driving while intoxicated, felony aggravated unlicensed operation of a vehicle and other traffic violations.
Hyman was arraigned at First District Court in Central Islip Saturday and ordered held on $3,000 bond or bail. It was not clear if he posted bail. He was due back in court April 8.
"The children were released to their mother," police said in a statement.
Leandra's Law, which went into effect in December, is named in honor of 11-year-old Leandra Rosado of Manhattan, who died in an October crash on the West Side Highway in which her friend's mother was charged with driving drunk.
