Man in fedora runs out of Tourneau with $48G watch, cops say

The nattily-attired fellow who strolled into a tony watch seller at the Walt Whitman Shops, had the bearing of a man with deep pockets in his sharp, tan khakis.

On his feet, he wore a pair of fashionable brown sneakers with snow white walls. Atop his head, a chocolate brown fedora with a cream band completed the look of a customer carrying plenty of cash and itching to spend it.

Had a man of means and mystery, a cream-colored foam brace wrapped around his neck, come to South Huntington?

He asked to try on a Rolex Sky-Dweller — sticker price, $48,850. What better way for a sharp-dressed man to accessorize than with a timepiece the Rolex website describes as “a distinctive technological masterpiece.”

But when this well-appointed shopper fastened the watch to his wrist Oct. 2 and made a mad dash for Tourneau’s exit, two truths emerged for stunned employees. He obviously loved the watch but not it’s price.

So he stole it, said Suffolk police, who have been searching for this classy-looking crook ever since.

Police said after the man ran out of the store, he jumped into a waiting gray Prius with Pennsylvania plates before the driver sped off.

Police have released photos showing the man as he entered Tourneau and are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-8477.

A reward of up to $5,000 is being offered for information leading to an arrest, police said.
