A Central Islip man convicted of raping a 19-year-old woman in her Brentwood home last year has been sentenced to 15 years in prison and 5 years’ post-release supervision, according to the Suffolk County district attorney’s office.

In addition to the sentencing on the top count of first-degree rape, Judge Timothy Mazzei in Riverhead on Monday sentenced Jose Gomez to 7 years for burglary and 5 years for sex abuse, to be served concurrently, the office said.

Authorities said that on Sept. 1, 2016, Gomez entered the woman’s home in Brentwood through a bathroom window and sexually assaulted her, but her younger brothers were able to “disrupt the rape,” and Gomez fled the scene.

Gomez was arrested 29 days later in Bay Shore by Suffolk County police officers. He was found guilty on Aug. 29 of the three offenses after a weeklong trial.

Gomez’s attorney, Chris Brocato of Central Islip, said at the time of Gomez’s conviction that, “He’s disappointed and he still maintains his innocence and he’s going to appeal.”

Brocato was not immediately available for comment Wednesday.
