Man shot in chest on Hempstead street, police said

A man was shot in the chest Friday night in Hempstead outside a block of apartment buildings, Hempstead police said.

Several bullets were fired about 10 p.m. on Terrace Avenue though the number of shots, whether anyone was arrested and other details were not immediately available as village police and Nassau police detectives gathered evidence, authorities said.

The victim was expected to live, police said.

Someone also tried to kill or wound the same man several weeks ago, a law enforcement source said.
