A man was shot inside a North Amityville residence Monday evening and taken in a private vehicle to a hospital, Suffolk police said.

Detectives went to the unnamed hospital to interview the victim, 26, and were trying to determine what happened in the 5 p.m. shooting on Madison Avenue, police said. It was not clear who drove him to the hospital, police said.

No one was in custody early Monday night, police said.

Photos of the scene showed police tape cordoning off a house and officers searching by flashlight for evidence in the snow.

Police declined to release other details, citing the ongoing investigation. First Precinct detectives ask anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 800-220-TIPS.
