Nassau County police are asking for help finding a man who stole $1,310.44 worth of Sharpies from a Bethpage craft store last month.

The man took the markers without paying from A.C. Moore Arts and Crafts on Hempstead Turnpike in Bethpage at 4 p.m. on May 2, police officials said.

Store general manager Leslie Smith said the Sharpies were paint markers, which are an ongoing target of thieves. “It’s one of the hottest items for theft,” she said.

The May theft was the store’s largest robbery of the items in recent memory, she said.

Crime Stoppers is asking anyone who can identify the subject or who has any information about the theft to call 800-244-8477.
