Man used fake credit to buy Stop & Shop gift cards, police say

Nassau police on Friday arrested a Brooklyn man they said used bogus credit and debit cards to buy as much as $20,000 worth of gift cards in Stop & Shop grocery stores across Nassau County.
Shawn A. Thompson, 32, of East 34th Street is charged with grand larceny in connection with several fraudulent purchases of gift cards from Feb. 1 through March, many of which were captured on surveillance video, Crimes Against Property detectives said.
Thompson, who surrendered to police in Westbury, is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday in First District Court in Hempstead. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
