A 32-year-old man at the Amityville train station was arrested after a Suffolk County Transit bus driver saw him stuff what appeared to be a handgun into his waistband, police said Friday.

Jon Nembhard, 32, of Manor Lane, Bay Shore, was taken into custody 5 p.m. Thursday in possession of a pellet gun replica of a .45 caliber handgun, Amityville Village police said.

For having the pellet gun at the station, Nembhard was charged with a violation, police said, and a subsequent investigation resulted in additional charges of possession of stolen property, false impersonation, and uncovered several warrants relating to burglary charges.

"It was a nice job by the bus driver," said Amityville Sgt. Brian Scott. Although it is unknown why Nembhard had the pellet gun with him at the station, two people were arrested there about a month ago for robberies in which a pellet gun was used, Scott said.

The bus driver was assisting bus passengers at the station, police said, when she saw Nembhard take what appeared to be a black handgun from a push cart, put it into his waistband, and go to the station's upper platform. The driver, whose name was not released, immediately called 911 with the information, police said.

After Nembhard was taken into custody, he initially identified himself with a false name, police said, and was in possession of a stolen iPod.

He was arraigned Thursday in Amityville Village Justice Court and ordered held on $3,000 bail, police said.
