Man accused in theft from Massapequa Park church poor boxes

Police arrested an Amityville man Saturday and charged him with breaking into a church and stealing from the poor boxes, Nassau County police said.
Mark Spruill, 49, is accused of entering Our Lady of Lourdes Roman Catholic Church, at 855 Carman Rd. in Massapequa Park on Thursday at 6:45 p.m. through an unlocked door. Police said he used a large rock to smash open the poor boxes and take an undisclosed amount of money.
Spruill is scheduled to be arraigned Sunday in First District Court in Hempstead on charges of burglary in the third degree, petty larceny, criminal mischief in the third degree and possession of burglary tools.
