Nassau police have arrested a Wyandanch man who they said they found hiding in the closet of a vacant Massapequa home Monday afternoon.
Terry Coleman, 43, of North 27th Street, is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead on a second-degree burglary charge in connection with the 3:50 p.m. incident on Soloff Road in Massapequa.
Seventh Squad detectives said they responded to a call of a burglary in progress at the vacant home and, when they arrived, heard the “sound of banging of metal” from inside the garage, according to a news release. Officers entered the home and noticed a stack of copper piping on the floor.
Police said officers searched the home and found Coleman hiding in a coat closet upstairs.
Coleman was being held overnight at police headquarters. His attorney could not be reached for comment.
