A Mastic Beach man was charged for allegedly stabbing and seriously injuring another man during an argument In Shirley on Sunday, Suffolk police said.

In a news release, police said Anthony Thompson, 25, of Fawn Place, stabbed a 51-year-old man shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday on West Parkview Drive.

Police said the victim was taken to NYU Langone Hospital-Suffolk in Patchogue with "serious injuries." Police did not identify the man.

Thompson was charged with first-degree assault, a felony. He pleaded not guilty and was released on bail with non-monetary conditions and a temporary order of protection at his arraignment Sunday at First District Court in Central Islip, according to court records, which list Roger Bruce Rothman as his defense attorney.

Rothman was not immediately available for comment late Monday afternoon.
