A Mastic man accused of stabbing another motorist in the neck after a road rage attack in the hamlet was ordered jailed Wednesday on $50,000 cash bail, $100,000 insured bond or $500,000 partially secured surety bond, according to court records.
The alleged attacker, Jeremiah Giraud, 25, was a passenger in a 2005 Nissan on Tuesday morning on Ditmas Avenue when he and the driver of another vehicle had a verbal dispute that escalated once both vehicles pulled over, the Suffolk County police said. Both Giraud and the other driver got out of their vehicles, police said. The argument continued until Giraud allegedly stabbed the driver, 71, in the neck with a knife about 9:10 a.m., police said.
Giraud returned to the Nissan and the driver fled. The wounded motorist was transported to a hospital with injuries not considered life-threatening, police said.
After hearing a description of the Nissan, Suffolk patrol officers found the vehicle Tuesday in the parking lot of a Family Dollar on Montauk Highway in Mastic. They searched the store and eventually found Giraud inside, the release said.
Giraud was arrested and charged with second-degree assault. He pleaded not guilty on Wednesday before Judge F. Scott Carrigan at First District Court in Central Islip, according to court records. Carrigan issued an order of protection and ordered Giraud held on the cash or bond bails, none of which had been posted by late Wednesday afternoon, according to the court records.
