Bronx man charged in Uniondale armed robbery, cops say
Nassau police arrested a Bronx man just before he escaped from robbing a Uniondale McDonald’s with a gun early Monday, officials said, adding that the suspect struck one victim on the head and stole another’s cellphone before he snatched cash from a safe.
Adrian Torivio, 45, of East 196th Street entered McDonald’s at 1050 Front St. through an unlocked door at 3:23 a.m. and held three employees at gunpoint, First Squad detectives said.
Police said he directed the two women and one man to the rear of the restaurant, where he struck one woman on the head and removed the man’s cellphone before directing the employees to open a safe.
He grabbed the cash, but officers arrived before he could exit, police said. One of the women had already escaped unharmed.
Torivio is charged with first- and second-degree robbery and fourth degree criminal possession of a weapon. He was being held at police headquarters in Mineola and is scheduled to be arraigned Tuesday at First District Court in Hempstead.
It was unclear late Monday if he had an attorney.
