Cops: Man hit by school bus in Merrick last month dies
A Merrick man has died of injuries suffered last month after a school bus collided with a pickup truck before jumping a sidewalk and hitting him, Nassau police said Monday.
Marc Kopman, 70, was hit by the bus about 12:30 p.m. March 28 after the crash at Merrick Avenue and Benson Lane, police said at the time.
Kopman was transported to a hospital in critical condition. Police said hospital staff pronounced him dead at 7:39 p.m. Saturday.
The driver of the 2019 Ford F-150 pickup, a 61-year-old man, and the driver of school bus, a 63-year-old man, were both treated for minor injuries and released from a hospital. Neither man was identified.
After hitting the victim, the school bus then crashed into Merrick Park Cleaners and Tailors, at 36 Merrick Ave, according to police.
The Nassau police Motor Carrier unit responded to inspect the bus and the pickup truck. The Town of Hempstead Building Department responded to inspect the building, which has since been boarded up, police said.
No criminality is suspected at this time, police said.
