Merrick T-Mobile store burglary suspects arrested, cops say

A Freeport man and two Freeport teens are in custody after they threw a brick through the window of a Merrick cellphone store, burglarized it and then struck a police car that attempted to pull them over as they fled, police said.
Nassau County police said the three threw a concrete brick rthrough the window of T-Mobile at 2131 Merrick Rd. in Merrick at about 12:16 a.m. on Tuesday. The group took a number of phones and pieces of electronic equipment and fled, police said.
Responding officers saw the group’s gray 2000 Mitsubishi Galant on Sunrise Highway, but the license plates did not match the vehicle description, so an officer attempted to stop the car, police said.
At that point, police said the driver, Charles Siebert, 22, of North Columbus Avenue, Freeport, crashed the car into the officer’s police cruiser and attempted to flee on foot.
The two other suspects, Anthony Morris, 16, of Shonnard Avenue, Freeport, and Joseph Torres, 16, of Lakeview Avenue, Freeport, remained at the scene in the car, police said.
During the investigation, police said they discovered the trio was also connected to another burglary on Feb. 17 in Bellmore. At about 2 a.m. that day, police said the group threw a concrete brick through the window of Kardesh Jewelry at 2370 Merrick Rd. and took watches and jewelry.
Police said they found the items taken from the jewelry store at the suspects’ homes after executing a search warrant.

Morris and Torres are each charged with two counts of third-degree burglary. Siebert is charged with resisting arrest and two counts of third-degree burglary.
All three are scheduled to be arraigned at First District Court in Hempstead on Wednesday.
Attorney information was not available for any of the suspects, but according to court records, Siebert has served time in prison for several previous burglary charges.
In 2011, he was sentenced to 3 years on charges of third degree burglary, grand larceny and third-degree criminal possession of stolen property, and in 2014, he served a year and a half on third-degree attempted burglary charges, according to online records.
