A Montauk man was held without bail Friday in the murder of another man who was found unconscious June 6 in a local park, Suffolk County police said
Joseph Grippo, 47, of Old Montauk Highway, was arraigned in East Hampton Town Justice Court on a count of second-degree murder.
Grippo bludgeoned the victim, Robert Casado, 38, of Montauk, with a pickax handle and stabbed him multiple times with a knife, according to charging documents.
Casado was found unconscious in Kirk Park with head injuries, police said. He was taken to Stony Brook Southampton Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Police did not provide details on the motive for the attack.
Grippo's defense attorney, Daniel Russo of Central Islip, did not respond to a request for comment.
Grippo is due back in court Wednesday.
