More arrests by Southold police in drug bust
Southold police and officers with the Suffolk County District Attorney's East End Drug Task Force have made eight arrests so far this month, including two men in Greenport charged Friday with cocaine and marijuana possession.
Police executed a search warrant at the residence of Lavain Creighton, 41, and Erica Hansen, 34, of 25 Washington Ave. Officers found cocaine, marijuana and a "substantial" amount of cash, police said.
Besides drug possession charges, Creighton and Hansen were charged with two counts of unlawfully dealing with a child and one count of endangering the welfare of a child for permitting children under 17 to remain in a home were drug activity occurs, police said.
Both were arraigned in Southold Justice Court. Bail for Creighton was set at $6,000 and bail for Hansen was set at $1,000.
Other arrests include:
Lashawn Lawrence, 27, of Second Street in Greenport; on June 15, police charged Lawrence with criminal sale of a controlled substance and was ordered held without bail because of prior felony convictions.
Leon Creighton and Peter Griffin, both 39, of Greenport, and Roger Gaud, 40, of Shirley, were arrested on Wednesday. Creighton was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance, possession with intent to distribute and other charges. He was arraigned in Southold Court and held on $101,000 cash bail.
Griffin faced similar charges and was held on $50,000 bail. Gaud was charged with criminal sale of a controlled substance after police found Gaud with 650 packets of heroin that was being transported to Greenport for distribution.
On June 14, Michael Ragone, 21, Mattituck, was charged with criminal sale of marijuana. He was arraigned in Southold Justice Court and bail was set at $1,000.
Police executed a search warrant on June 3 at the home of Jeffrey Jackson, 48, of Broad Street in Greenport, for criminal possession of marijuana, intent to sale and criminally using drug paraphernalia. He also possessed "a substantial amount of cash" and was held on $52,000 cash bail.
The search warrants were carried with assistance from the Suffolk County Police Emergency Services Unit and the Suffolk County Sheriff's K-9 Unit. The Task Force is funded by District Attorney Thomas Spota and includes officers from New York State Police, Suffolk police, county probation officers and various East End police departments.
