More swastikas found at Nassau Community College, police say

Multiple swastikas scrawled in a men’s bathroom has ramped up the number of hate graffiti cases to six at Nassau Community College, Nassau police said Friday.

A professor noticed the swastikas about 1 p.m. Friday in the lower level men’s bathroom of the G building, which houses several studies, including criminal justice, political science and anthropology for the Garden City campus.

Third Precinct detectives have been investigating bias incidents with graffiti at the college since Oct. 15, when three green swastikas were scrawled in a second-floor men’s bathroom in the E Cluster building.

Police said statistics don’t show an uptick in bias cases over last year and believe that several swastikas at the college found may be the work of a single person.

According to police, two other incidents occurred in October, on the 28th, when two swastikas and an anti-Semitic comment were found on a men’s bathroom wall in the D cluster building, and the next day, when more blue swastikas were found on the walls and urinals in men’s bathrooms on the first and second floors of the E building.

Then on Dec. 7, three swastikas were discovered drawn in black ink on a wall and a fourth on a staircase handrail in the B cluster building.

On Dec. 9, several swastikas and the words “Germany” and “Heil Hitler” were found drawn with a black marker inside the E cluster building’s first-floor men’s bathroom.
