A U.S. Postal Service worker from Moriches was arrested and charged for allegedly raping a 15-year-old in one of the agency’s vehicles, police said.
Jenry S Buestan Gutama, 23, allegedly assaulted a minor who “is familiar with” him, the East Hampton Town Police Department said in a news release Friday night. The department did not state when the incident occurred but said it took place inside the postal service vehicle in East Hampton.
The teen reported the abuse to school officials, who then reported the incident to police, police said. The department coordinated an investigation with the USPS Office of the Inspector General.
The East Hampton school district could not be immediately reached for comment late Friday. The postal service did not immediately respond to emailed requests for comment.
Police arrested and charged Buestan Gutama with first-degree rape and endangering the welfare of a child. He will be held at the department’s headquarters overnight ahead of his Saturday arraignment at East Hampton Town Justice Court.
Detectives ask anyone with information regarding the incident — as well as others who may have been a victim of Buestan Gutama — to call East Hampton police at 631-537-7575. All calls will remain confidential.
