A Hempstead motorcyclist faces drunken driving charges after being pulled over for speeding Saturday on the Meadowbrook Parkway in East Garden City, State Police said.

Alessandr Melo, 38, was driving his motorcycle at 80 mph and cutting off other drivers as he "made numerous unsafe lane changes," police said in a news release.

When Melo was pulled over on the northbound Meadowbrook near Stewart Avenue, troopers also detected a strong odor of alcohol, the release said.

Melo failed sobriety tests and was arrested. He also provided a breath-analyzer sample of .11 percent, police said.

He is charged with DWI and several traffic violations and is scheduled to appear at First District Court in Hempstead on Sept. 23.
