A 21-year-old woman was charged with driving while intoxicated and vehicular manslaughter after police said she caused a crash that killed a motorcyclist Thursday in Brookville.

Nassau County police have not released the identities of the woman or the motorcyclist, who was identified only as a 33-year-old man.

Police said the woman was operating a 2017 Ford sedan northbound on Cedar Swamp Road when she lost control of the car, which flipped over, hit a telephone pole and knocked down wires. Police could not immediately detail what type of wires were downed or if any were electrified.

Police said that within minutes the motorcyclist, operating a 2006 Honda motorcycle, also northbound, "became entangled in the wires" and was knocked from the bike.

He was pronounced dead at the scene by a police medic, police said.

Police said the incident occurred just after midnight and said the female driver was arrested at the scene. She was transported to a local hospital for treatment.

Additional details were not immediately available.
