Nassau DA: Long Beach man admits fatal party shooting

A Long Beach man faces 20 years in prison after admitting to fatally shooting another man at a party at a public housing complex in the city in 2014, prosecutors said Tuesday.

Antonio Webb, 24, pleaded guilty Monday to first-degree manslaughter and second-degree criminal possession of a weapon in front of acting Supreme Court Justice Teresa Corrigan. He is scheduled for sentencing on May 17.

Webb admitted to shooting Tyrenzo Brown, 28, also of Long Beach, at a party at the Channel Park Homes near Birch Court on Sept. 27, 2014.

Authorities said the shooting followed an altercation between Webb and a friend of Brown’s over a woman and said Webb fired a pistol “several times” into a group of partygoers — striking Brown “multiple times,” killing him.

Webb, who fled the scene, was arrested on Oct. 1, 2014.

“This defendant recklessly shot into a crowd of people and stole the life on an innocent 28-year-old,” Nassau County District Attorney Madeline Singas said Tuesday in a statement. “We hope this plea will help the family of Tyrenzo Brown as they grieve the senseless murder of this young man.”

Following the arrest, Brown’s mother, Sandra Hodge, said it was painful to see her son’s alleged killer in court — and said that the two families knew each other from the neighborhood. “We’re letting the law ... handle it,” she said. “But we’re hurting a lot. Every day we suffer.”

At the time of the shooting, family members said Brown worked in construction and had two daughters.
