Nassau police: Man arrested, charged in Hempstead woman’s death

Police said they have arrested a Hempstead man in the slaying of a woman in her home late Tuesday.
Kevin Pratt, 24, will be arraigned Thursday in First District Court in Hempstead on a charge of second-degree murder, Nassau County police said.
Police responding to a call of a disturbance at the Harvard Street home found the homicide victim, identified as Taracker McClendon, 59, of Hempstead, police said.
Officers responded to the call shortly after 9 p.m. Tuesday and found McClendon, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.
The victim is believed to be Pratt’s aunt, according to a law enforcement official. Investigators believe McClendon, who was stabbed multiple times inside the home, was fighting with Pratt over money, the official said.
A woman who answered the phone at the house Tuesday night declined to comment.
Family members arrived at the home Wednesday afternoon but declined to comment.
Other details were not immediately available as investigators gathered information, Hempstead Village and Nassau police said.
Detectives are asking anyone with information about the homicide to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
