A Florida woman is charged with grand larceny after she attempted to scam more than $1 million from a Roosevelt nonprofit in May, Nassau County police said.

Nicole Ramirez, 28, of Orlando, allegedly contacted the Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County pretending to be a representative of M&T Bank on May 5, and obtained the nonprofit's bank account information.

On May 13, a real M&T Bank representative contacted the nonprofit about 21 attempted wire transfers on its account, totaling $1,029,132.40, police said.

Police said $50,314 was successfully transferred out of the nonprofit’s business account.

Ramirez surrendered in Nassau County on Monday, police said.

She is charged with second-degree grand larceny and will be arraigned on Monday at First District Court in Hempstead.

The Cerebral Palsy Association of Nassau County could not be immediately reached for comment.
