Detectives probe fatal shooting of Hempstead man

Homicide detectives are investigating the killing of a Hempstead man in Valley Stream early Monday.
Officers responding to a call about a shooting on West Merrick Road early Monday found a male victim, who died later at nearby Long Island Jewish Valley Stream, Nassau County police said.
He was identified as Shaleek Jenkins, 35.
Police said Fifth Precinct officers responded to the scene after receiving the call at 4:05 a.m. Jenkins was pronounced dead at the hospital at 5:10 a.m., police said.
Details of the shooting were not released. Police said homicide squad detectives are investigating and anyone with information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 800-244-8477.
