Nassau police: Massapequa woman stole $100G, prescription pad

A Massapequa woman was arrested Friday for forging and cashing more than $100,000 in checks, and stealing a prescription pad to fill dozens of fraudulent opioid prescriptions, Nassau County police said.

Yessenia Alongi, 37, was arrested at 8:30 a.m. at a Merrick window company, where she worked as a bookkeeper, by officers from the Drug Enforcement Administration’s Tactical Diversion Squad, police said.

The squad comprises agents and officers from the DEA, NYPD, State Police, Westchester County police and police from the Town of Orangetown in Rockland County.

Between March 16 and July 7, Alongi forged and cashed numerous checks from her current employer, police said.

That investigation led law enforcement to a second scheme in which Alongi had stolen a prescription pad from a Bellmore doctor’s office where she used to work, a Nassau police spokesman said. Alongi filled the prescriptions at several pharmacies across Long Island, police said.

It was not immediately known whether Alongi had an attorney.

Alongi has been charged with second-degree grand larceny and multiple counts of second-degree criminal possession of a forged instrument, police said.

On Saturday, a judge in First District Court in Hempstead set Alongi’s bail at $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond, which she did not post, records show.
