Suffolk police are investigating a car accident that killed a Nesconset man Sunday morning.

Matthew Warner, 26, of Empress Pines Drive in Nesconset, was traveling at "a high rate of speed" when his vehicle struck a curb and hit two traffic signs and a tree, a police spokesman said.

The crash occurred at 4:20 a.m. on Gibbs Pond Road near the intersection with Prince Charming Road, police said.

Warner, who was partially ejected from the vehicle, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. The investigation is on-going.

Detectives ask that anyone with information on the accident call the fourth squad at 631-854-8452.
