A New Cassel man faces assault charges after injuring two other men on Thursday with a landscape rod, Nassau County police said.

William O. Diaz, 23, Brooklyn Avenue, is charged with two counts of second-degree assault and possession of a dangerous weapon, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.

Third Squad detectives said Diaz was involved in an argument in front of his house with two neighbors, ages 18 and 24, at about 7 p.m.

The argument escalated, and Diaz stabbed the 18-year-old with what police said was a “metal landscape rod,” causing a laceration to his abdomen. Diaz then hit the second neighbor in the head with the rod, causing a laceration, police said.

Both men were taken to a hospital for treatment of their injuries.

Third Precinct officers responded and placed Diaz under arrest without incident.
