New Hyde Park Funeral Home burglar apologizes, police say

A burglar leaving a New Hyde Park funeral home returned a briefcase to its owner, seemingly apologetic for taking it in the first place, Nassau County police said Tuesday.
The burglar took the briefcase from an “employees only” area inside the New Hyde Park Funeral Home, at 506 Lakeville Rd., at about 11 a.m. Feb. 1, according to a news release.
As he was leaving, the burglar was confronted by an employee who also was the owner of the briefcase, police said.
The burglar gave back the briefcase and told its owner he was a drug addict, the release said.
The burglar, described as about 50 years old, 5-foot-10, 230 pounds and wearing a ski cap, sunglasses, jacket and black workout pants, then walked across the street and entered an older model black Chrysler minivan, police said.
The van then drove off, heading north on North Ninth Place.
