BMW used to ram into Medford Nissan dealership and make off with Dodge Charger, police say

Suffolk County police are investigating a car theft at a Medford auto dealership after a vehicle was used to crash through its showroom to steal another vehicle, police said. 

Around 1:30 a.m. on Thursday, a person or persons stole the keys to a 2023 BMW X5 that was parked outside at Nissan 112 Certified, a used car dealership on Route 112, according to police.

They crashed the BMW into a 2022 Nissan Versa, which then struck the building, breaking the showroom window, police said.

Employees told Newsday the Nissan Versa had been parked outside by the showroom to deter break-ins. 

The thief or thieves then stole a 2023 Dodge Charger from inside the showroom.

Ray Penza, COO of Tantillo Auto Group, which owns the Medford dealership, confirmed the theft occurred after hours.

Around 8 a.m. Thursday, the glass front of the showroom was shattered, with the parked Versa sitting damaged, its bumper ripped off and driver side window shattered.

The BMW parked nearby also was damaged.

Police told Newsday no security footage was recovered.

Officers allowed employees back into the building and removed yellow police tape around 10:30 a.m. Scattered glass lay strewn about inside the showroom. A red bow that had adorned the top of the Charger was tossed aside.

A restoration team began cleaning the damage around 11:20 a.m.
