A hit-and-run crash left a woman with serious injuries Tuesday in Huntington Station when she was struck by flying car debris, Suffolk police said.

The victim, identified as Diana Carvelli, 69, of Northport, was driving west about 4:30 p.m. on Jericho Turnpike when an eastbound, tan pickup slammed into her Jeep, Det. Sgt. Scott Welshimer of the Second Precinct said. The crash happened near Depot Road, police said.

“It looks as if the driver had drifted into her lane, just enough to sideswipe her,” Welshimer said. “Debris blew into her window.”

The woman was taken to Huntington Hospital to be treated for her head injuries, but detectives do not believe her injuries are life-threatening, police said.

Detectives asked for the public’s help to locate the driver who fled and a pickup that has damage and a missing mirror on its driver’s side.

Police said anyone with information could call 631-854-8252.
