Niall Duignan charged with DWI after striking 78-year-old woman in Oceanside, police say

A woman was in critical condition in a local hospital after an intoxicated driver struck her while she was crossing an Oceanside street on Thursday, Nassau County police said.
At 4:41 p.m., a 78-year-old woman was walking in a crosswalk at the intersection of Long Beach Road and Weidner Avenue when a 2004 Chevrolet Express van struck her.
Police determined that the driver, Niall Duignan, 24, of Oceanside, was intoxicated.
Officers arrested Duignan without incident and charged him with driving while intoxicated and second-degree vehicular assault.
He will be arraigned on Friday at First District Court in Hempstead.
