An Elmont man was drunk and speeding Friday morning on the Long Island Expressway in Melville when he rear-ended another vehicle, overturning it and injuring its driver, Suffolk County police said.
The driver of the overturned 1997 Nissan was taken to Huntington Hospital where she was treated for minor injuries, a police spokeswoman said. She had no passengers.
Oliver Larson, 29, was driving a 2008 BMW at a “high rate of speed” eastbound in the right lane of the expressway, near Exit 49S, at about 3:22 a.m. when he hit the Nissan from behind, police said.
The Nissan, which also was in the right lane and traveling at a “normal rate of speed,” overturned on the side of the road, and Larson’s BMW went into the woods, police said.
Larson was not injured, and his three passengers — a man and two women — were taken to Huntington Hospital with minor injuries, the police spokeswoman said.
Larson was arrested and charged with driving while intoxicated. He is scheduled to be arraigned Friday at First District Court in Central Islip.
