Cops: Drunken driver hits neighbor walking home from LIRR station
A Garden City man walking home from the Long Island Rail Road station was seriously injured when he was hit by a drunken driver who was a neighbor, police said.
Tara Guinnane, 47, was driving a 2015 Jeep north on Clinch Avenue about 6:10 p.m. Monday when she turned right onto Wilson Street and struck the 50-year-old man, Garden City police said.
The man, who was not identified, was taken to NYU Winthrop Hospital in Mineola with a severe head injury, a police spokesman said.
Guinnane was charged with aggravated driving while intoxicated, assault and driving an unregistered vehicle, the spokesman said. Arraignment information was not immediately available.
She and the victim both live on Wilson Street, the spokesman said. He could not say how close they lived.
