A pedestrian struck and killed on a Franklin Square street, allegedly by a hit-and-run-driver, has been identified as Jessica Carbajal, a resident of the hamlet, Nassau police said Thursday.

Carbajal, 37, is at least the seventh pedestrian either killed or injured since May on Long Island.

Police said Marcial Pimentel, 20, of Franklin Square, was driving a silver 2005 Infiniti sedan at about 1:21 a.m. Wednesday on Franklin Avenue when he struck the woman later identified as Carbajal. He drove off but was later located and taken into custody, according to police.

The victim was pronounced dead at a hospital later Wednesday morning, police said.

Pimentel, who police said was driving with a suspended license, faces charges of leaving the scene of an incident: death, and third-degree aggravated unlicensed operation.

The first charge is a felony that can bring a seven-year prison term, officials said. The second charge is a misdemeanor that can trigger a top fine of $500 and a 30-day prison sentence.

Pimentel was scheduled for arraignment Thursday in First District Court but his appearance was still pending late in the afternoon.
