At about 9:30 p.m. on Christmas, a cab driver allegedly drove through a stop sign at Carleton Avenue and Ackerman Street in Central Islip and struck a Suffolk County Police Department patrol car and other vehicles. (Dec. 25, 2011) Credit: Stringer News Service

A taxi driver ran a stop sign in Central Islip on Sunday night and collided with a Suffolk police car, sending both the cabbie and a police officer to Southside Hospital with minor injuries, Suffolk police said.

The taxi driver was cited for driving while intoxicated in the 9:30 p.m. accident, at Carleton Avenue and Ackerman Street, police said.

No further information, including the names of the cabbie and the police officer, was immediately available.
