A man who led police on a high-speed chase through the streets of Hempstead more than a year ago repeated the perilous performance this week — and once again ended up in the hospital after crashing his car, police said.

A pedestrian he struck during the chase Thursday was hospitalized for treatment of a leg injury, police said.

Driver David Safran, 54, of Levittown, was charged with speeding, reckless endangerment and other crimes and will be arraigned when medically feasible, Hempstead Village police said Friday.

Police said Hempstead officers saw Safran’s Porsche speeding Thursday afternoon on Front Street and pursued him.

During the chase, he hit a woman outside the county Social Services offices on Charles Lindbergh Boulevard in Uniondale about 4 p.m. before crashing, police said.

Police said the investigation was continuing and did not release other details about the crash or other possible injuries.

Photos of the scene show a silver Porsche with front and back end damage.

One photo shows a head-on collision between the Porsche and a black Chevrolet sport utility vehicle. The SUV appears undamaged.

Police said Safran was arrested in October 2016 after he fled Hempstead officers when his license plate set off an electronic alarm on the officer’s plate reader.

He was charged with reckless endangerment, seven counts of possession of forged instruments and eight traffic or vehicle violations, police said at the time.

During that chase, Safran crashed into another vehicle, causing nonserious injuries to two occupants of that vehicle, police said.

He was hospitalized for his injuries, police said.

The Nassau County district attorney’s office said that case was closed, but not sealed, and it would not comment on it.
