A wrong-way driver was arrested and charged with drunken driving early Monday in Hempstead, police said.

Carlos A. Rodriguez, 32, of Smith Street, Freeport, was arrested following a traffic stop on Greenwich Street at 2:15 a.m., Nassau County police said.

He was charged with aggravated DWI, DWI, driving the wrong way and numerous vehicle and traffic law violations, police said. He is scheduled for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Hempstead.

Police said a Highway Patrol officer spotted Rodriguez driving his 2002 Jeep east in the westbound lane of Centre Street, then turn right and head south in the northbound lane of Greenwich Street before stopping him — and finding him intoxicated.

No one was injured.
