An Elmont woman found a burglar rifling through her belongings when she returned home Wednesday morning, Nassau police said.

Devon J. Pruden, 22, of Elmont, had proceeds from the theft and a large knife in his possession when he was stopped on the street by officers responding to the break-in, police said.

The 40-year-old woman called 911 from a neighbor’s house after confronting the intruder in her Morgan Avenue home at 8:39 a.m. Jewelry and collectible coins she kept in a locked box were strewn about her first-floor bedroom, police said.

No injuries were reported.

Pruden was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
