Elmont woman confronts burglar inside her home, police say

An Elmont woman found a burglar rifling through her belongings when she returned home Wednesday morning, Nassau police said.
Devon J. Pruden, 22, of Elmont, had proceeds from the theft and a large knife in his possession when he was stopped on the street by officers responding to the break-in, police said.
The 40-year-old woman called 911 from a neighbor’s house after confronting the intruder in her Morgan Avenue home at 8:39 a.m. Jewelry and collectible coins she kept in a locked box were strewn about her first-floor bedroom, police said.
No injuries were reported.
Pruden was charged with second-degree burglary and possession of burglar’s tools. He is scheduled to be arraigned in First District Court in Hempstead on Thursday.
