A man pulled over after driving erratically Monday night on the Long Island Expressway in Nassau County turned out to be drunk — nearly four times the legal threshold, police said.

Highway patrol officers responded to a 911 call for a red pickup driving erratically on the eastbound LIE near Exit 37, Nassau police said in a news release.

A responding officer stopped the 1997 Dodge Ram at Exit 39 in Old Westbury at about 9:15 p.m., police said.

Police determined that the driver, Steven Bilella, 25, of Shirley, was intoxicated so they arrested him, according to the news release.

“At the time of the arrest an open bottle of Captain Morgan rum and cans of Budweiser beer were found in the vehicle,” police said.

Police said Bilella registered a blood-alcohol level of .31 percent, which is nearly four times the legal threshold for intoxication.

Police said there were no accidents or injuries.

Bilella was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment, aggravated driving while intoxicated, DWI, and multiple vehicle and traffic law violations, police said.

He was scheduled for arraignment Tuesday in First District Court in Hempstead.
