An Island Park man was arrested Thursday night not long after he robbed a market in his community at knifepoint, police said.

William Yungandreas, 51, was charged with first-degree robbery after the 9:43 p.m. robbery at Classic Market Place on Long Beach Road, Nassau County police said Friday in a news release.

Yungandreas “entered the store holding a knife” and pointed it at the 55-year-old male clerk, demanding cash, police said.

The suspect took money from two registers and fled, police said.

“Responding officers conducted an investigation and a short time later,” found Yungandreas “in the vicinity of his residence” on Private Right of Way and arrested him, police said.

Yungandreas was additionally charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance because he was found to be in possession of a substance believed to be Roxicodone, police said.

He is scheduled to be arraigned Saturday at First District Court, Hempstead.
