Police: Man fired shots into crowd
A Hempstead man was arrested after firing shots into a group of people early Sunday morning, Nassau County police said.
Juan Miranda, 27, fired into the group of people walking near 310 Fulton Ave. in Hempstead Village at about 3:50 a.m., striking a 19-year-old man, police said.
Miranda then began to run, chased by several of the people in the group. Police reported that Miranda and his pursuers began to struggle violently until Hempstead Village police arrived and arrested Miranda.
The 19-year-old victim, who police did not identify, was taken to a hospital in critical condition, police said, while Miranda was also taken to a hospital for treatment of unspecified injuries.
Police have not found the weapon.
Miranda was charged with attempted murder, first-degree assault, criminal possession of a firearm, reckless endangerment and menacing. No arraignment date was set, although police said he will be arraigned "as soon as practical."
