Bronx man drove on Northern State impaired by drugs, cops say

A Bronx man was arrested and charged with drug possession and driving while ability impaired by drugs following a traffic stop by State Police Sunday on the Northern State Parkway in Dix Hills.
Edward Hidalgo, 46, was arrested after a trooper smelled marijuana during the traffic stop near Exit 42, Deer Park Avenue, at 9:48 p.m., police said. Police said Hidalgo failed a field sobriety test administered after the trooper stopped his white Nissan Maxima for traffic violations on the westbound parkway.
Hidalgo was charged with fifth-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance, felony DWAI/drugs with a prior DWI conviction in the last 10 years, unlawful possession of marijuana and unspecified traffic violations. He was held for arraignment Monday in First District Court in Central Islip.
