More than a dozen drivers have been arrested so far on the East End during the Memorial Day weekend as part of the Suffolk County district attorney’s office’s efforts to keep impaired drivers off the road, authorities said.

Those arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated include men and women who range in age from 21 to 51, according to Riverhead and Southampton Town police.

Some suspects were also charged with other offenses including possession of marijuana and other drugs, leaving the scene of an accident and various traffic violations, police said.

Most of the 14 total arrests were made between 8 p.m. Saturday and 4 a.m. Sunday and occurred during saturation patrols and at a checkpoint on Montauk Highway in Hampton Bays, according to a news release.

In addition to the Riverhead and Southampton Town police, participants in the effort included the Suffolk County Sheriff’s Department and police departments from the villages of Southampton, East Hampton Town and Sag Harbor.
