Police probe death of pedestrian hit by cab in Hamptons

State Police are investigating a crash that killed a pedestrian early Sunday on Sunrise Highway in Hampton Bays.

A Sunset Taxi cabbie told troopers that shortly after 2 a.m. he was driving a 2007 Ford Crown Victoria west on Sunrise Highway approaching Exit 65 when he suddenly saw a man standing in the roadway.

The car hit the man, Richard Styles, 42, of Eastport, police said. He was taken to Peconic Bay Medical Center in Riverhead where he was pronounced dead.
