No arrest was made after Suffolk County police said they searched an area in Coram on Thursday for a gunman who shot a man on the street and drove off.
Officers found a man wounded in the leg on Norfleet Lane near Homestead Drive about 4:30 p.m., police said.
It was not clear what sparked the attack, police said, but officers flooded the area in search of the suspect.
The victim was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with injuries that were not considered life-threatening, police said.
A police spokeswoman Friday said police ended the active search of the area, but the investigation is continuing and “we are still looking for the suspect.”
